Throughout the scriptures, Latter-day Saints come across the various pestilences sent forth by the Lord to chasten the people. LDS Mormons know that pestilence sometimes comes upon the unrighteous and the righteous. When the Latter-day Saint Mormons first arrived in Utah, shortly after a plague of grasshoppers came and started eating up all the crops. When the Saints prayed to the Lord for help He sent seagulls which ate all the grasshoppers.
